Household Hazardous Waste Day

  • Island Beach Parking Lot Arch Street Greenwich, CT (map)

What is Household Hazardous Waste? HHW is generally defined as a household waste that is toxic, flammable, reactive or corrosive. Common HHW includes oil-based paints, thinners, pesticides and disinfectants. These materials can catch fire, react, or explode under certain circumstances, or are corrosive or toxic.

How should HHW be disposed? These materials should never be disposed by pouring them down the drain, on the ground, into storm sewers, or putting them out with the regular trash. The Town of Greenwich and neighboring municipalities offer special days for residents to properly and safely dispose of this waste.

What materials are accepted on HHW Day? A full listing of accepted items and guidelines are available through the Town of Greenwich.

When can I dispose of this material other than HHW Day? If you can't take advantage of HHW Day in Greenwich, you can visit HHW Day in neighboring towns by proving Greenwich residency.  View the schedule for the details.
