SHELL RECYCLING PROGRAM

For Businesses

Waste Free Greenwich, Greenwich Shellfish Commission and Greenwich Conservation Commission are proud to support Collective Oyster Recycling & Restoration (CORR) in their mission to reduce waste by recycling oyster and clam shells from restaurants and events to restore vital oyster reefs and marine habitats in the Long Island Sound.

The organizers welcomed aboard the following local restaurants and clubs, which since fall 2023 have diverted over 14,400 pounds of shell from the waste stream to improve water quality, increase fish habitat and provide a perfect spot for baby oysters to grow.

  • Elm Street Oyster Bar

  • East End

  • L'escale

  • Le Penguin

  • Le Fat Poodle

  • Siren

  • Belle Haven Club

  • Indian Harbor Club

Join us in thanking these local businesses for their leadership toward a more sustainable future for our oyster populations and a healthier Sound!

For Residents

From November through May, Greenwich residents can drop off oyster and clam shells at the designated drop area at Greenwich Point Park. Collection containers are located in the first parking lot on the right, across from the Sue Baker Pavilion and first concession, adjacent to recreational shellfish bed AREA B Only. Shells can be brought to the food scrap recycling drop points in town from June through October.
